Description

'Pit' shown on 6inch OS 1st edition (Bucks sheet 20, surveyed 1885); 'Gravel Pit' shown on 25-inch OS 1st edition (Bucks sheet 20.9, surveyed 1880); 'Sand Pit' shown on 6-inch OS (surveyed 1930) (B1).

A post-medieval gravel pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in fields NE of North End, Stewkley and centred at SP 85001 27385, the irregularly shaped extractive pit was recorded on the 1881 1st edition OS map and is about 6,786 square metres in area (2-5).
