Description

Near centre of a square stands an old stone cross elevated on 4 grades, the basis 7ft 6ins square and nearly 3ft high; the next step 10ins & the upper one 18ins supporting an octagonal shaft about 4ft in height in which are perforations for tenons to the transverse arms, long since destroyed. Fabric of hard sand or grit stone. [Illustration](B1).

Village cross, comprising 3 step plinth & socket stone & remains of the shaft. Shaft (originally octagonal?) worn into a partially circular plan. Socket stone & plinth restored at various periods. Date C15? [Photos](B6).

Grade II+. Remains of cross. Probably C15. Stone. Worn stop-chamfered shaft with small hollow at base of N. side. Square plinth on 3 steps. Scheduled Ancient Monument (B8).
