Description

'QUARRY' SHOWN ON 6IN OS 1ST EDITION (BUCKS SHEET 32, SURVEYED 1880); 25IN OS 1ST EDITION (BUCKS SHEET 32.8, SURVEYED 1880); 6IN OS (SURVEYED 1930); PROCEEDINGS OF GEOLOGISTS ASSOCIATION (DAVIES, 1899, VOL 16, 22) [B1]

A quarry of post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 130m west of the cross roads at King’s Cross, Haddenham, and centred at SP 73715 10013. An irregular shaped quarry pit can be seen on aerial photographs from the 1940s and 1950s through to 1973 where the pit appears to be much shallower. Lidar visualisations and the most recent aerial photographs show that the pit has been mostly infilled and the field is in use as grass/pasture. Underlying solid geology is Purbeck Group Limestone; no Superficial Deposits are recorded at this location. (2-4)
