Description

'Gravel Pit' shown on 6-inch OS 1st edition (Bucks Sheet 13, surveyed 1880), 25-inch OS 1st edition (Bucks Sheet 13.7, surveyed 1880), 6-inch OS (surveyed 1930) and 1:10,000 OS (surveyed 1971) [B1].

Two extractive pits of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 400m west of Foscott and centred at SP 71285 35568. Cut in to ridge and furrow earthworks in Superficial Deposits of Glaciofluvial Deposits overlying White Limestone solid geology. Northernmost pit is oval in shape and 85x45m in size and southernmost pit is L shaped and 103x33m in size. (2-3)
