Description
'PIT' SHOWN ON 6IN OS 1ST EDITION (SURVEYED 1880); 6IN OS (SURVEYED 1930) [B1]
Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 690 metres SW of Hill Farm and centred at SP 73175 28158, an irregularly-shaped extractive pit is about 1,451 square metres in area. The extraction does not feature on historic OS map editions and therefore likely dates to the first half of the 19th century or earlier. On remote sensing data taken in 2019, the extractive pit is very shallow and its edges softened by post-war plough-levelling (2-3).
