'PIT' SHOWN ON 6IN OS 1ST EDITION (BUCKS SHEET 13, SURVEYED 1880); 25IN OS 1ST EDITION (BUCKS SHEET 13.10, SURVEYED 1880) [B1]
A post medieval gravel pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on Buckingham Golf Club Course and centred at SP 67229 33564, an irregularly shaped gravel pit measures about 92 x 46 metres at its widest points and covers an area of about 3,247 square metres. The site is identified as an ‘old gravel pit’ on the 1881 dated 1st Edition OS map (2-3).
