Description
A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 115 metres N of Vancouver Lodge and centred at SP 66897 38304, the finger-shaped pit is about 129 x 34 metres at its widest and covers about 2,972 square metres in area cutting through blocks of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. It is shown on the 1881 1st Edition OS map, suggesting a 19th century origin (2-4).
