The pits are visible in the 1940s, on the north side of the railway; they are cut through ridge and furrow earthworks and in to the underlying superficial geology of Till Diamicton overlying Peterborough Mudstone. They measure 103x92m and 61x53m at their largest. The area has been redeveloped for a supermarket and a road junction by 2003. (2-3)
