'PIT' SHOWN ON 25IN OS 1ST EDITION (BUCKS SHEET 7.16, SURVEYED 1880); 6IN OS (REVISED 1930S) [B1]

A post-medieval subcircular sand pit is is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located adjacent the NW facing side of Whitfield Wood and centred at SP 64225 39580, the subcircular pit is about 60 metres in diameter at its widest and has an area about 2,708 square metres. It is depicted on the 1884 dated 1st Edition OS map (2-3).
