Description
PHOTOS & A/P'S SHOW SOME TERRACING ON HILLSIDE(BI1) - SOME QUITE MARKED TERRACING RUNNING PARALLEL WITH THE UPPER WINCHENDON-CHEARSLEY ROAD WHICH TURNS INTO 'MATCHING' RIDGE & FURROW ON THE LOWER SLOPES & ON THE LEVEL(BI2).
Traces of strip lynchets are to be found in a field known as "The Linces" and further traces of the same formation in a field named "Home Close" (Centred SP 748137). The height of the steps varies from four to twelve feet, and the average breadth of terrace is twenty five feet (B3).
Visible on air photogrpahs (at 738139; SP 748137; SP 744136; SP 743133) (B4).
Medieval or earlier cultivation terraces are visible on the steep valley sides with steps of circa 2.0m and from 8 to 10.0m in width (B5).
