Description

In Hardwick Aelmer holds 2 hides from the Count [of Mortain]. Land for 2 ploughs; they are there, with 2 villagers and 1 smallholder. 1 slave; meadow for 2 ploughs. The value is and always was 40s. Saeward, Earl Harold's man, held this land; he could sell.
In Hardwick William holds 1 hide from Miles [Crispin]. Land for 1 plough; it is there, with 2 smallholders. Meadow for 1 plough. Value 20s; when acquired 10s; before 1066, 20s. Oswulf held this land; he could sell.
In Hardwick Thurstan [son of Rolf] holds 19 hides. Land for 19 ploughs; in lordship 9 1/2 hides; 3 ploughs there; a fourth possible. 24 villagers with 4 smallholders have 14 1/2 ploughs; a further 1/2 possible. 8 slaves; meadow for 10 ploughs. Total value £15; when acquired £10; before 1066 £16. Saxi, a thane of King Edward's, held this manor (B1). NGR to centre of village.
