Description

The Queen [Matilda] holds Hambleden herself. It answers for 20 hides. Land for 30 ploughs; in lordship 5 [hides]; 3 ploughs there. 50 villagers with 9 smallholders have 27 ploughs. 9 slaves; 1mill at 20s; from 1 fishery, 1000 eels; meadow for 8 ploughs; woodland, 700 pigs. In all its payments it pays £35 a year at face value; when the Queen was alive £15; before 1066 £16. Earl Algar held this manor. (B1). NGR to centre of village.
