Description

'Pit' shown on the OS 1st edition 6in (Bucks sheet 41, surveyed 1874-80); 'old gravel pit' shown on the OS 1st edition 25in (Bucks sheet 41.8A, surveyed 1874); 'old chalk pit' shown on OS 6in (surveyed 1940) [B1].
A large, irregular shaped chalk and flint (gravel?) quarry pit approximately 53m long and 25-30m wide at its widest, with an entrance on the western side. Shown on 1847 Bradenham tithe map, but possibly earlier than that. Gazetteer no.156914 (NT SMR no.150561)(B2).
