Plan Form - LINEAR
A SLIGHT LINEAR DEPRESSION STUDDED WITH NUMEROUS PONDS, PROBABLY THE OLD WATERCOURSE OF WEST BROOK. 8 X 12 FEET TRENCH WAS EXCAVATED TO GET A SECTION ACROSS THE DEPRESSION. 6 INCHES BENEATH TURF WAS A LAYER OF COBBLING WITH MEDIEVAL SHERDS ON ITS SURFACE. BLACK SILTY LOAM LIKE DITCH-SLIT LAY ON THE COBBLES WHICH MAY HAVE FORMED A PATHWAY MORE THAN 8 FEET WIDE ACROSS THE DEPRESSION (B1).
A LOCAL INHABITANT INFORMED R W GRIFFITHS THAT DEPRESSION WAS ORIGINAL WEST BROOK (B2).
