Description

King William holds Biddlesden. Earl Aubrey had it from him. 4 hides and 1 virgate. Land for 8 ploughs; in lordship 2 hides; 1 plough there, 2 more possible. 4 villagers and 5 smallholders have 2 ploughs; a further 3 possible. 4 slaves; 2 mills at 28d; meadow for 1 plough; woodland, 200 pigs. Value 30s; when acquired £4; before 1066, 40s. Azor son of Thored, a thane of King Edward's, held this manor.
In Biddlesden the Count [of Mortain] also holds 3 virgates. Land for 1 plough; but it has been laid waste. Alric, Alwin son of Goding's man, held this land; he could sell (B1).
