Description

The shaft end of a Middle Bronze Age side looped spearhead approx 112mm long found in a near-vertical position 0.15-0.16m below the surface of a footpath by Gary Blackwell whilst metal-detecting in April or May 2004. 3 further fragments including the tip were found in a subsequent visit when members of Chess Valley Archaeological and Historical Society recorded the location of the findspot and carried out excavation of the findspot. The excavated area was 0.25m X 0.25m and 0.20m deep and failed to locate any further traces of activity. Gary Blackwell carried out a detailed metal-detector survey of an area 2m X 2m around the find spot but also failed to find any further evidence. The spearhead was identified by Yvonne Edwards of CVAHS and confirmed by Dr Jonathan Cotton of the Museum of London (B1).
