- PIT (17th Century - 1600 AD? to 1699 AD?)
Description
Watching brief carried out by Thames Valley Archaeological Services in October and November 2004 during groundworks for building extensions identified a straight-sided post-medieval pit at least 0.6m wide and 0.75m deep. 5 sherds of medieval pottery and 1 sherd of 17th century pottery were recovered from the fill. The pit cut a layer of silty clay, at least 0.6m thick, interpreted as a levelling or make-up layer which contained 4 sherds of medieval pottery. 3 sherds of pottery from the watching brief were probably kiln wasters. 2 further 19th or 20th century pits were also indentified (B1).
