Description

A 19th or early 20th century brick-lined well rediscovered (accidentally) in January 2005 by Thames Water employee. Narrow circular opening about 0.6m in diameter, widening out to an irregular bowl shape abou 1m wide. Old pipe (water mains?) visible in side of shaft. Well is filled to within a couple of meters of the surface. Apparently a local man reports remembering a hand pump on the site. [This is supported by evidence of a remaining vertical pipe in the well shaft.]. See notes, sketch, photos and location plan (B1).
