Description
Furniture factory occupied by Greengate Furniture as at 2004 but due to be closed shortly. According to owner of Greengate the building was constructed about 1898 for the Thompson family who manufactured mineral waters. The sloping floor inside the factory building reputedly facilitated drainage. Two storey red brick building end-on to road with single storey extension. Greengate make contract furniture and bespoke traditional upholstered furniture and have new premises on the Cressex Industrial Estate. Upper floor may be a later addition. Greengate formerly used the adjacent dwelling house, Oakridge House (MBC23718 CAS 0846600000) for upholstery work but now let it out as an accountant's office. Extractor funnel in front of factory. This site is connected to 8 Abercromby Avenue, also owned by Greengate (CASS 0843100000). Report and photographs (B1).
