Description
Typical arrangement of chairmaster's house, factory and yard at 8 Dashwood Avenue. Detached red brick bay windowed house built end-on to the road about 1900 with its main door giving onto the yard, and with a later extension at the rear. The single-storey brick and corrugated metal workshop is probably original (c.1900). The two-storey red brick factory is probably 1920s. The rear part has been altered, mainly by the enclosure of an open shed. The factory still has external staircases but they are metal replacements. Rooflights inserted in factory roof. The workshop and factory are still used for furniture making (as at 2004). The house has been converted into an office. Names of 'Burton Son & Sanders' and 'Croxson Bros' still visible in paint on the gable end of the factory. Sources, report and photographs (B1).
