Description

Large furniture factory complex occupied since new by Verco. William Vere founded the business in 1912 and the original factory was in Dashwood Avenue. The business was moved to Chapel Lane but the date of construction is not clear. The Cabinet Maker and Complete House Furnisher of 27 October 1928 refers to a new factory in Sands but Verco's website says the freehold site was not bought until 1932. The company produced domestic furniture until the 1960s when it began to specialise in office furniture. There have been many additions and alterations on the site. See report for detail and photographs (B1).
