Description

Large former furniture and upholstery factory on Chairborough Road comprising a group of two and three-storey buildings around a yard and originally dating from the 1930s. Maps show this as Sandown Works but it is assumed that it is the same as Chairborough Works occupied by Peatey Bros & Collins in the 1930s. The Cabinet Maker and Complete House Furnisher of 28 October 1933 referred to Peatey's new buildings being erected by J W Cubbage & Son. The factory was later used by Dawsons Seating and most recently by Greengate Furniture who closed the factory around 2003/4. As at 2004 planning permission had been given for demolition and redevelopment for housing. See report for detail and photographs (B1).
