- FURNITURE FACTORY (20th Century - 1900 AD to 1999 AD)
Description
Former furniture factory behind 7 Amersham Hill. Formerly occupied by Lord Bros, a company established by seven brothers after World War I in Bellfield Approach. In 1938 the factory, then called Station Works was put up for sale by auction by the Receiver of Lord Bros. (auction catalogue at Bucks County Record Office). The catalogue described the property as modern workshops, offices, showroom , garage and extensive yard. Two building ranges survive. That to the south has been converted into offices and as at 2004 is occupied by solicitors. The building was substantially altered during this conversion despite being in a conservation area. The range on the northern side of the yard is more recognisable as a traditional furniture factory but has also been converted to offices. In late 2004 it was empty. See report for details and photographs (B1). Also references in The Cabinet Maker and Complete House Furnisher of 29 October 1921 and 27 October 1923.
