Description
Group of buildings now calles Fryers Works, on north side of Abercromby Avenue at junction with Fryers Lane. Much altered but probably mainly 1920s. Believed to be on the site of the furniture factory of J C Lane which was reported in 1928 to have been burnt down and rebuilt (The Cabinet Maker and Complete House Furnisher, 27th October 1928). The upper storey of the front building appears to have been added to an earlier building of better quality, judging by the brick pilasters and differing brick work on the upper storey. The J C Lane factory was called Ogilvie Works. A photograph from 1920 held by Wycombe Museum shows a long two-storey brick and slate factory with brick pilasters with Abercromby Avenue still unmade. J C Lane made a wide range of furniture and were pioneers in the making of bed-settees. Buildings are two-storey made of red brick with corrugated roofs and in 2004 are in multiple occupation. See report for photographs and description (B1).
