Description

Evaluation trial trenching carried out by AS&C in November 2004 recorded 3 ditches, aligned roughly N-S, NW-SE and E-W. Ditch A was at least 3m long, 0.85m wide and 0.3m deep with steep sides and a broad, slightly uneven base. Ditch B was at least 1.6m long, over 1.5m wide and 0.5m deep with steep sides and a broad flat base. A single sherd of medieval pottery was found in the primary fill. Ditch C was at least 2m long, 1.5m wide and 0.3m deep with sloping sides and a rounded base. All 3 ditches are interpreted as Medieval in date, possibly representing 2 phases of activity and it is suggested that they lay at the periphy of the main focus of medieval settlement (B1).
