Description

EVIDENCE FOR A SMELTING HEARTH OR KILN CONSISTS MAINLY OF A SAMIAN SHERD HEATED TO OVER 1100C & PRESENCE OF IRON SLAG (B2).
APART FROM AN UNUSUALLY TAPERING GULLY LEADING TO A PIT CONTAINING SCUM, THERE WAS NO OTHER EVIDENCE OF A FURNACE; THIS MAY HAVE BEEN DESTROYED WHEN THE AREA WAS BULLDOZED (B4).
