Description

Evaluation carried out in February 2004 by Thames Valley Archaeological Services identified 2 undated ditches and a possible irregular pit or tree-hole in trench 1. A shallow E-W ditch or gully 0.6m wide and 0.2m deep was cut by a NNW-SSE ditch, at least 4m long, 0.92m wide and 0.22 deep, which also cut the possible pit or tree hole approx 0.8m in diameter. The only finds were post-medieval and all came from the subsoil: 1 iron horseshoe, 1 sherd of red ware pottery and 1 fragment (5g) of tile. The low density of finds and features suggests that the site may only have had 'light usage' in the medieval and post-medieval periods (B2).
