Description
RB SHERDS FOUND IN DRAINAGE TRENCH &IN EXCAVATIONBY BCM(BI2).NO SAMIAN ALL RB EXCEPT FOR 1 SHERD OF GALLO-BELGIC WARE(BI1).PROB C1-2.NO OXFORD WARES O R COLOUR COAT.POSS LATE SAXON JAR RIM(BI3).
Romano-British sherds were found in a pit dug into an earlier ditch, when digging a drainage trench, by Mr Corbett, and in excavation by the County Museum, at Rhoslan, Marston Hill: SP 786217, in 1966. Acquired by Bucks Co Museum, Acc No 84.66 (B2).
The precise find-spot of the Romano-British sherds was indicated on the ground at SP 78632172 by Mrs Corbett. Only about 4-6 lbs of coarse grey pottery was found (B7).
The findspot is on a hill where, according to local tradition, a "Roman Camp" stood. Finds made c 1870 include "bones… supposedly human … tins of coins", but nothing dated. Apart from the above-mentioned sherds, nothing has been found recently. Surveyed at 1:2500 (B6).
