Description

There was a park here in 1329 which, according to the VCH, was 'doubtless the park called 'Poundefold' in the town', mentioned in a Close Roll of about 1390 (B1).
A result of the central position of Aylesbury in the county was the existence there of the park or poundfold for cattle distrained by the sheriff. The tenement held by service of keeping this pound apparently existed in 1086 (if it is to be identified with the virgate for which service was done to the king's sheriff by a sokeman). The park is mentioned in an account roll of 1329-1330 recording money received for various animals distrained by the Sheriff of Buckingham and impounded at...Aylesbury (this is doubtless the park called 'Poundefold' in the town of Aylesbury mentioned in a Close Roll of 1390-1391. [The pound is mentioned again in 1649-1650.] (B1).
Possibly attached to the manor of Kingsbury (CAS 0211)? NGR to centre of Aylesbury parish.
