Constructed for Miss Alice de Rothschild in 1905 near the site of a much earlier windmill, the mill was more an ornamental than a practical machine. Miss Alice enjoyed seeing the sails turning as she travelled up the drive from the crossroads, and efforts were made to have the mill working when she returned to Waddesdon after prolonged absence (B9).
