Description

On the OS 1st Edition 6in map surveyed in 1878-80, a small field barn is shown within an irregularly shaped enclosure. The tree lines within the same field to the south suggest field divisions that have been removed (1).

Medieval field boundary and drainage ditches are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a close immediately adjacent Crabtree Farm and centred at SP 81107 31036, six parallel linear ditches stretch W-E across the field, forming six elongated rectilinear ditched enclosures of various sizes. One of the field boundary ditches is recorded on the 1880 dated 1st edition OS map, removed on the 1944 dated aerial photographs. Perpendicular to these field boundaries are three interconnecting drainage ditches. On aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data, the features remain extant (2-5).
