Description

The OS 1st Edition 6in map surveyed 1878-80 notes a 'gravel pit' at this location. On the western side of the fence (Addington), there is a small pond which may also be the result of gravel extraction (1, 2)

Two extractive pits of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 400 south of Winslow house and centred at SP 76040 28392. Two irregular shaped gravel pits against the filed boundary visible as earthworks on aerial photograph. The southern pit is marked as a gravel pit on historic mapping but the northern is not shown. (3-4)
