Description

The OS 1st Edition 6in map notes a large pit, and the OS 25in map annotates the feature as an 'Old Gravel Pit' (1, 2).

A post-medieval gravel pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located 85 metres west of the church in Whaddon village and centred at SP 80455 34105, the irregularly shaped gravel pit is about 2,275 square metres in area and has truncated a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. Aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data indicate that the feature remains extant (3-6).
