Description

Find made during a rally of the Weekend Wanderers Detecting Club. Hammered copper farthing - James I, Lennox issue, date 1614-1625, very poor condition, virtually illegible. The kettering is eractic and the coin is badly mistruck. No mint mark is legible and hence the coin could be one of the numerous forgeries that were circulating at this time. The finds were made in the top 6 inches of ploughsoil. A search of an area 20m x 20m around the find spot was made but no other finds were made. Another coin of Edward II's reign was found 200m away (1) .
