Description

English Heritage's Survey of Stowe undertaken in 2001 notes the remains of several tree stumps in this vicinity attributed to the Bycell Ride, shown on Bridgeman's plans of 1739. One very lumpy stump is surrounded by a degraded mound 12m diameter which is thought to be more likely the result of of ploughing than an artificial tree mound. The stumps are noted as having been recently damaged during ploughing (1)
