Description

The will of William Smyth (1507-c.1528?) included a gift of 10 shillings for 'the Ancresse at Bucks', which suggests that there was at least 1 female hermit attached to Buckingham church in the 16th century. The 1840 tithe map for Radclive records a field name of 'Little Hermitage' between St Rumbold's Well and Tingewick Road (B1).
