  • HA HA (18th Century - 1700 AD to 1799 AD)

Description

In March 1993 a trench was cut and then extended in 1996 to locate the line of the former Ha Ha. Two stretches of the Ha Ha were revealed below the turf and subsoil and consisted of rubble limestone foundation set into a shallow trench 0.52m wide. On one section large slabs were laid at ground level to form capping stones. In the other section the stones retained evidence of square iron railings set 0.07m apart. The foundations were reburied (B1).
