Description
The field is bounded by the River Leck on the east and by the clay pits that once served the 19th century brick and tile works at Pottery Farm. Of the 68 sherds collected the medieval types included Medieval Oxford Ware; Brill/Boarstall Ware; Potterspury Ware; and Sandy Coarseware. The majority was Potterspury Ware. Two sherds of Roman pottery were also recovered. The distribution suggests manuring scatters and that the field was once medieval ploughland. A dearth of medieval material came from the extreme eastern end of the field suggesting that the ploughland never extended to the brook and that a narrow area of meadow was retained (1).
