Description

Field bounded to the south and east by Chapel Lane and partly occupied by sewage works. Chosen by the Whittlewood Project and given reference AK1. Field was walked when newly ploughed. 16 lines were walked and 60 sherds of pottery recovered, mainly post-medieval and modern. Interpreted as indicative of ploughing from 18th century onwards and previous to that the field is likely to have been open fields (no ridge and farrow noticeable on aerial photographs) (B1).
