Description

Two oval depresssions 30-40m across and 1m deep identified during field survey carried out by Network Archaeology in July 2001 in advance of forestry planting. Depressions did not register as anomalies during subsequent geophysical survey. Interpreted as possible extraction pits or may be part of extension of southern moat for Moreton Manor (B5).

An area of probable coprolite extraction of post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and soilmarks, and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located south of Moreton Farm, Dinton-with-Ford and Upton, and extending west for approximately 761m, and centred at SP 78632 09335. Modern land use is woodland and these earthworks can be seen on lidar visualisations surrounded by ridge and furrow earthworks. The underlying solid geology is Gault Formation Mudstone. This one of a line of extraction sites between the site of Little Marsh Farm, Great and Little Kimble cum Marsh, and Ford, Dinton with Ford and Upton, inside the project area. (6-8)
