Description

A small 'wattle and daub' cottage with thatched roof formerly stood on the site and was demolished in 1960. Buildings are shown at this location on 18th and 19th century maps (Jefferys' and Bryant's) and the cottage is apparently shown on the 1831 Inclosure and 1885 1st edition 6-inch OS maps. Evaluation trial trenching carried out by AS&C in December 2002 identified 19th and 20th occupation and demolition debris, but the lack of medieval (or early post-medieval) finds suggested that the site lay outside the medieval village core (B1).
