Description

A substantial undated earthwork comprising a ?holloway visible for approx 20m, with large upcast banks to either side approx 2m high and 4m appart. The line of the earthwork is marked on the 1982 1:10,000 OS map and is located within a small copse surrounded by gently sloping arable fields but does not seem to be aligned with other boundaries in the vicinity (B1).

Two short parallel linear earthwork banks of uncertain date and function are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within a small spinney about 445 metres SSE of Snowball Farm and centred at SP 63246 35548, two parallel earthwork banks are both about 20 x 7 metres with long sides aligned WSW-ENE and separated by a 2.5 metres gap. The northmost bank appears to have been truncated at the northern end by a field boundary. A small block of medieval and/or post medieval ridge and furrow earthworks abuts the southmost earthwork within the spinney and both banks are aligned with large blocks ridge and furrow cultivation that was located in the fields to the NE (now plough levelled) and NW (still extant earthworks). It is therefore possible that both banks represent medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow earthworks or plough headlands that have been altered in the past for some unclear purpose (2-3).
