  • PIT? (Medieval - 1066 AD? to 1539 AD?)

Description

Cut of a probable pit (min 0.2m wide, 0.54m deep) recorded in east section of trench for installation of rising bollards in George Street, at junction with Temple Square. Pit probably truncated by recent (19th century?) road make up or service trenching. Pit fill contained undiagnostic ceramic tile (medieval to post-medieval), but dark organic-rich soil is characteristic of fills of pits and wells excavated elsewhere in Aylesbury (B1).
