Description

A cluster of 'Oldwick' field names noted to the west of Wood Green, adjacent to the parish boundary with Biddlesden. The names are first documented in the early 13th century. It is not clear if the derivation of the names is from 'wic' or 'wich', but they could indicate the site of a former settlement or dairy farm. Fairly uncommon for 'old' and 'wic' to be combined in place names (B1).
