Description

Trial trenching by A C Archaeology identified 3 Roman urned cremations dating from the mid 1st century AD, in trenches C14 and F6. The burials appear to be focused on the Roman road of Akeman Street (CASS 0105001000): 2 of the cremations urns were contained in a sub-circular pit possibly cut into the outer edge of the northernmost of the road ditches, whilst the remaining cremation urn was contained within a small pit cut into the fill of a 1st century AD shallow flat-bottomed N-S ditch (B5).
