Monument record 0664401000 - Rear of 10 High Street, Winslow

Post-holes possibly of part of a building and a fence line, provisionally dated to post-medieval and early modern (19th century), recorded during evaluation carried out by Network Archaeology. Later terracing or possibly construction of a cellar and subsequent landscaping seems to have caused considerable disturbance (B1).
Subsequent excavation by Network Archaeology in June 2002 recorded post-medieval pits, postholes, wall footings, a boundary ditch and early modern features. Finds included 2 medieval pottery sherds, possibly residual or possibly indicating that medieval features had been destroyed by post-medieval activity. The possible post-built structure identified in the evaluation trench did not extend into the excavation area, but the boundary ditch was roughly parallel with the possible fence line found in the evaluation which continued into the excavation area, suggesting an east-west ?burgage plot about 7m wide and at least 20m long.
