Description

Small area of earthworks ?settlement in grass field between moat and church, crossed by footpath, also area of dark soil, extent not closely defined, much post-Med material but few sherds of Med in rough ploughed field to N of moat NGR SP 85411682 (B1).
Bierton and Hulcott Inclosure Award (1780) shows some buildings in field indicated W of the moat and N of the church (B2).

Medieval and/or post medieval village shrinkage is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located In fields between Church Farm House and Church Farm in Hulcott village and centred at SP 85199 16837, the earthworks comprise a network of boundary ditches or trackways that form and enclose numerous rectilinear and subrectangular earthwork platforms and terraced ground. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, the earthworks remain visible (3-7).
