Description
Small complex of probable WWI practice trenches in a field now in use as a golf course to the S of Stablebridge Road, Aston Clinton. Seen as faint earthworks in 1945 AP, though appear largely levelled or filled-in (B1).
Small area of possible Frist World War practice trenches seen on air photograph (B2).
Practice trenches of probable World War I date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant soilmarks and earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the golf course, now Chiltern Forest Golf Club, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 88997 10727. Landscaping for the greens and fairways at the golf club has removed most evidence of the trenches but high resolution lidar visualisations show some subtle earthworks and cropmarks remain. (4-10)
