Description

Oval late C12- early C13 (date suggested by Museum of London) lead seal matrix (very high lead content) found in field to E of Breaker's Yard in Aston Clinton by metal detectorist. Identified at BCM. Sun and crescent moon as central motif and inscription - + S(IGILLUM) WALTERI DE MOR, in a mixture of Roman and Lombardic lettering (B3). Is suggested that this may be same person as mentioned in Buckinghamshire Feet of Fines referring to widow of Walt. de Mora (1227) (B2). Seal published in Recs of Bucks (B3).
