Description

Possible Iron Age coin AR, 1/4 Stater. Obv. Figure holding staffs L & R; Rev. celticised animal (?griffin) in ring of pellets, cf van Arsdell 1790 (Tasciovanus) though this is not identical. The obverse is unlike any in van Arsdell. J Parkhouse suggested that TC take coin to Ashmolean and advise SMR when exact id known. TC also informs J Parkhouse that several Roman coins from same field have holes drilled through for suspension. ?Remains of necklace? (B3).
